Palermo opened their Group B campaign with a 2-1 win over Maccabi Petah Tikva.Serie A outfit Palermo opened their Uefa Cup Group B campaign with a 2-1 win over Maccabi Petah Tikva.
An 11th minute strike from Franco Brienza, that beat Omer Golan at his far post, put the Sicilians in control but their Israeli hosts were level on the stroke of half time courtesy of Comer Golan.
A long ball from back to front exposed Palermo's backline and having beaten goalkeeper Mariano Andujar to the ball, Golan finished calmy to equalise.
With a stalemate looking the likeliest outcome, a Christian Telizzi volley ensured a 2-1 success with just just 13 minutes remaining.
Palermo's away day joy was matched on Wednesday by Barcelona-based side Espanyol, as they too recorded an impressive victory on foreign soil.
Lokomotiv Moscow were their hosts but the Russians could do little in response to Raul Tamudo's strike early in the second half.
