Hector Font has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Espanyol after being told that he no longer has a future at Villarreal.The attacking midfielder is keen to quit El Madrigal as soon as possible and has set his heart on a move to the Catalan club after reports that they have made enquiries about his availability.
"Espanyol would be a strong possibility," he told COM Radio. "At the moment nobody has approached me, but it is clear that Espanyol is is a good team and Barcelona is a fine city.
"I would enjoy playing in the Uefa Cup and the truth is that it would be a good opportunity for me. I would really love to join them."
Former Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde expected to be named as the new Espanyol coach this week after Miguel Angel Lotina quit at the end of the season and Font believes that he would work well under the new man.
"Valverde did very well at Athletic and they played some great football," added Font. "He was a good player himself and that is why he knows how to treat his teams so well."
Font is also a fan of several Espanyol players, as he praised Ivan De la Pena, Raul Tamudo and Raul Garcia.
"They are great players," he enthused. "Both last season and this one, they proved that. Espanyol have a strong team and I have always liked them. They stayed up on the last day, but that was due to all kinds of things."
Font was a product of the Villarreal youth team and became a regular in the first team during the 2004-05 campaign, but has fallen out of favour with coach Manuel Pellegrini, who has told him to look for a new club this summer.
