Denny Landzaat has agreed to join Espanyol and is waiting to seal the deal.
Denny Landzaat has agreed to join Espanyol and is waiting for AZ Alkmaar to give him the green light to leave, according to the player's agent.
The 30-year-old is keen to move after speaking to Philip Cocu, Mark van Bommel and Giovanni van Bronckhorst whilst on World Cup duty with Holland.
AZ are not keen on losing a key performer, but he has made his intention clear and is hoping that coach Louis van Gaal will agree to let the deal go through.
"The terms of the contract between Landzaat and Espanyol are finalised and all that remains is for the player to sign it," agent Sigi Lens told COM Radio.
"He would sign a two-year deal, with the option for a third. Now everything depends on AZ Alkmaar.
"He is an important player to van Gaal, but Landzaat wants to go.
"His contract finishes in 2007 and it would be stupid if AZ kept him and allowed him to leave for free in one year.
"I do not think that is what they want. That is why they are trying to finalise a deal that will see Landzaat fulfil his desire to play for Espanyol in a new league."
Landzaat, who captained AZ last season, is a product of the Ajax youth academy and can play anywhere across the midfield.
He left Ajax in 1996 to join MVV and, after three seasons moved to Willem II, where he spent five seasons before signing for AZ in 2003.
Espanyol are currently rebuilding their squad under new coach Ernesto Valverde, who is keen to mould the team to his liking after replacing Miguel Angel Lotina last month.
