Hosts leave it late to beat France

Spain earned a 1-0 win over France thanks to a late goal from left back Joan Capdevila in a friendly international in Malaga on Wednesday. Capdevila popped up ten minutes from time to score from close-range and give Spain a morale-boosting win. The defeat was harsh on France who dominated for most of the game with Thierry Henry going close on two occasions. First the Barcelona star saw his shot saved by Iker Casillas before he fired in a shot which flew just wide. Karim Benzema was inches away from equalising in the final minute when he saw his header come back off the crossbar and Henry somehow headed the rebound wide. It was only the second time Spain have beaten France in their last 11 meetings. Worryingly for Liverpool fans Fernando Torres was forced to limp off after just 23 minutes with an apparent hamstring problem.
