Deportivo La Coruna striker Rodolfo Bodipo has been ruled out for six to eight months after tearing cruciate knee ligaments.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury whilst playing in a friendly match for Depor against third division outfit Leracha on Wednesday.
Bodipo actually scored the first goal in a game Depor won 2-0, but was left in agony just past the half hour mark as he damaged his right knee.
Tests after the match revealed the gravity of the complaint as it was confirmed that Bodipo had torn the cruciate ligament.
The news is a major blow for both player and club with Bodipo having only joined the Galicians in the summer from Alaves.
His lengthy absence leaves Depor with only two fit forwards, Riki and Javier Arizmendi, with Uruguayan hit-man Sebastian Taborda also currently in the treatment room.
