Cedric Bakambu scored two goals as Villarreal claimed a comfortable 3-0 home victory over struggling Alaves on Sunday.

The Congolese striker fired Victor Ruiz's assist into the bottom corner just after the half-hour mark and Carlos Bacca added a close-range second seven minutes after the break.

Bakambu completed his double 10 minutes later thanks to Samu Castillejo's well-placed through ball to hand Villarreal their second successive league victory.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Loic Remy struck three minutes from time to lift Las Palmas to a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

The Frenchman, who joined the club on September 1 after being released by Chelsea, came off the bench to grab the winner, cutting in from the left and firing beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga to hand Bilbao their first defeat in four matches.

Luis Muriel's second-half goal proved the difference as Sevilla moved two points behind league leaders Barcelona by edging to a 1-0 win at Girona.
