Although it is doubtful that Palermo will be risked having been out since November 29 through injury, he could well get a spot on the bench as Villarreal look to ensure Primera Liga status for next season.
Palermo broke his leg celebrating a goal against Levante in the Copa del Rey and at first it appeared his World Cup dreams had been shattered, but he could yet force his way back into Marcelo Bielsa's plans for Argentina.
"I have to recognise that I dream about coming back and scoring," he said. "It's something that already happened to me in Boca against River and that goal was the most exciting thing I have lived in football.
"Much more than any goal in the Copa Intercontinental or in the Libertadores, and it's clear that I would like to relive it, if I can can, next Sunday.
"The fans, like the press, shouldn't think that because Palermo is out on the pitch everything will be solved. My team-mates and I know that even though I'm back this doesn't mean anything.
"This is the team's work and I can help out scoring if I have luck, but I need my team-mates as much as they need me. I am not the saviour.
"I understand that there is expectation on me when I'm returning to play. I am very calm and in condition to help the team.
"We no longer need the team to play well. To win 1-0 and get three points is what we need."
Speaking about his modified goal-scoring celebrations, Palermo added: "The truth is if I score on Sunday I will not celebrate on an advertising hoarding. I would do it again because I do not think that it will happen again but right now I would not do it.
"Perhaps with time I will return to celebrate with the public because it is a special sensation."
