The Argentinian striker has been fairly open about his desire to use Villarreal as a springboard to further his career but having spent a large degree of the season out after breaking his ankle, it remains to be seen if another club will come in for Palermo.
After scoring a goal against Leganes in the Copa Del Rey, Palermo broke his ankle after he fell from the advertising hoarding where he was celebrating.
"If there is a top team, I have always said that I would go," said Palermo.
He added: "I do not want the fans or directors to feel badly as they have a plan for this club.
"I don't think you can make conclusions, there are many things that could happen, but I am not unhappy at Villarreal.
"I am ambitious and I do not like to fight against relegation.
"It would be something to play in the Champions League.
"Real Madrid wants to let (Fernando) Morientes, the top-scorer go and Barcelona the same with Kluivert. If such important players leave their teams, you never know what can happen. Surely the injury has complicated things and I do not know if I'd played in all league games."
