The former Valencia star joined 'The Yellow Submarines' from Internazionale during the winter transfer window after failing to command regular first-team football at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Since arriving back in Spain, the 25-year-old has been a virtual ever-present for Villarreal, but it seems the club do not have funds to complete a permanent deal.
"We have told Inter that we will not be making use of the option to buy that we had," stated Villarreal delegate, Jose Manuel Llaneza.
"However, the matter is still open to other possibilities."
The Castellon-based outfit are hoping to secure another loan deal to keep Farinos at Estadio El Madrigal next term.
Meanwhile, Llaneza remained coy over the future of Argentine striker Martin Palermo, who has been linked with a move away from La Primera club.
"With respect to the case of Martin there is no news, and we have not spoken about it at all.
"A lot of things have come out in the press, but that doesn't mean that all of them are true."
