Serie A side Perugia took a 1-0 advantage from the first leg to Germany for their battle with Wolfsburg and ultimately ran out convincing winners.
Giovanni Tedesco set Perugia on their way with a goal after 16 minutes and the Wolfsburg wagon fell off the rails on 42 minutes when Pablo Thiam was sent off.
The Italians extended their lead with a minute remaining when Emanuele Berrettoni scored with Diego Klimowicz becoming the second Wolfsburg player to see a red card.
Wolfsburg's Bundesliga rivals Schalke fared better in their tussle with Pasching as a 0-0 draw was sufficient to hand the German outfit a 2-0 aggregate triumph.
It was also 0-0 in Spain as Villarreal progressed into the Uefa Cup first round at the expense of Heerenveen.
The Dutch outfit were trailing 2-1 from the first leg but were unable to find the goals which would have brought a longer run in Europe.
