The highly experienced Italian midfielder has joined the Yellow Submarines from Serie A champions Juventus after they usurped some of Spain's more established powers to finish third in La Liga last season.
They signalled their growing ambition by tying up a move for the well-regarded 30-year-old and the new-boy now insists he has arrived to help guide the side past Premiership outfit Everton in the qualifying rounds and beyond.
"I am very happy to arrive at the club because it is a very strong team that had a sensational league campaign in Spain," said Tacchinardi.
"I arrive to give the club more experience in the European competitions.
"Everton is a hard opponent but I am convinced that we will make it through the round."
The Italy international took a huge step in ending his 11-year association with The Bianconeri to move to Spain, and revealed that former Juve team-mate Juan Pablo Sorin played an important role in attracting him to El Madrigal.
"When I knew of the interest from Villarreal I spoke with Sorin and he spoke highly of the club," Tacchinardi continued. "At this moment I decided to join."
