Mallorca have clinched the signing of exciting Argentine prospect Leonardo Pisculichi.Mallorca have clinched the signing of exciting Argentine prospect Leonardo Pisculichi.
The 21-year-old has joined from Argentinos Juniors and becomes The Islanders' first signing of the winter transfer window.
Pisculichi attracted interest from a host of clubs both in his native Argentina and Europe after notching ten goals in the Torneo Apertura for his club.
River Plate, Independiente and Racing Club all wanted to keep the youngster in South America, but the financial benefits of a move to Europe proved decisive and Mallorca held off interest from the likes of Sporting Lisbon and Cadiz to get their man.
The deciding factor in Pisculichi's choice seems to have been the colony of Argentines already at Mallorca with Eduardo Tuzzio, Guillermo Pereyra, Adrian Peralta, Jonas Gutierrez on the books at Son Moix, and Hector Cuper (pictured) at the helm.
Pisculichi admitted that he hoped the presence of so many compatriots would ease his adaptation to the Spanish league, but insisted he was well aware of the task he faced in joining Mallorca with The Islanders perched just above the Primera relegation zone.
"I am very happy to have joined and know the difficult situation Mallorca are going through," he stated.
Mallorca could now look to bolster their squad further with the addition of Walter Pandiani following Chris Sutton's arrival at St Andrews, although they will face stiff competition from Espanyol.
