The 29-year-old ace has been looking for a new club after rejecting a new deal at Sheffield United at the end of last season, and he had travelled to Spain to undergo a trial at former club Osasuna.
The full back spent one season at Osasuna before joining Leicester and he had hoped to win a move back to the club after winning a trial.
The player's agent Justin Sumner confirmed that Ullathorne had returned to England to discuss a move with some interested clubs after running out of patience with Osasuna's demands.
"Robert spent a week in Osasuna taking part in training sessions and he played in a practice game on Saturday in which he played okay," said Somner.
"They wanted to view his fitness levels and we had hoped to have some positive by the end of the week, but it did not happen.
"They requested him to stay for the next couple of weeks so as to assess him which was not we were looking for and he has returned to England.
"There was a stronger indication shown to get him out there but not the same when he was there and we have other options to get something for Robert.
"Robert has returned because we are further down the road with other clubs than we were with Osasuna."
