Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti had been hot on the heels of the 26-year-old for some time, and has finally sealed his signature for a fee which is thought to be around é¼17.5 million (£11.5m), although neither club has officially confirmed the amount involved.
French champions Lyon were amongst the suitors for Oliveira but the Brazilian marksman was always keen to join the six-time European champions.
Oliveira has penned a five-year deal at San Siro and has the tough job of filling the boots of Andrei Shevchenko after he joined Chelsea in the summer.
"I am happy because Milan is one of the best clubs in the world," said Oliveira.
"The opportunity is incredible and I do not want to waste the chance to triumph in Italy and return to the national team."
Oliveira banged in 22 goals as La Liga's top scorer in 2005 and will hope to reproduce that sort of goalscoring form now he has fully recovered from the knee injury which hampered his campaign last year.
Milan have revealed that Swiss midfielder Johann Vogel has been included as part of the deal as he has moved to Seville to join Betis.
The Spanish side had been keen on Vogel to bolster their side this summer and, with him well down the pecking order at Milan, he has been included in the deal to sign Oliveira.
