Real Madrid remain seven points clear at the top of La Liga after Jose Mourinho's side beat Getafe and Barcelona clinched a narrow win over Real Sociedad.
Sergio Ramos' first-half goal was enough to keep Real on course for the title following a battling 1-0 triumph away to Getafe.
Reigning champions Barcelona are still giving chase at the top after securing a 2-1 success over Sociedad at Camp Nou.
Cristian Tello scored after just nine minutes for Barca before Lionel Messi notched his customary goal on 72 minutes, although substitute Carlos Vela's reply two minutes later ensured the hosts were unable to rest easy.
The fight for fourth spot continues apace after current holders of that position - Levante - were held to a 1-1 draw at home by lowly Racing Santander.
Arouna Kone put Levante in front midway through the first half, but Santander claimed a point courtesy of Manuel Arana's goal on the hour mark.
Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol are currently sixth and fifth respectively and the UEFA Champions League hopefuls played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at San Mames.
Oscar de Marcos gave Bilbao the lead on 28 minutes, but Espanyol had turned the game around by the early stages of the second half thanks to goals from Romaric and Vladimir Weiss.
Bilbao responded to level through Fernando Llorente and then regain the lead through Javi Martinez before substitute Juan Albin scored a last minute equaliser for Espanyol.
Real Mallorca put some distance between themselves and the relegation places after a 1-0 home win over Real Betis in a game which produced three red cards.
Gonzalo Castro's 24th minute goal proved decisive and, after Betis had seen Mario sent off 15 minutes from time, Mallorca duo Ivan Ramis and Victory were dismissed in the closing minutes.
