Dani Parejo's late penalty gave Valencia a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo to move two points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona after Real Madrid had earlier swept past Sevilla 5-0 at the Bernabeu.

Simone Zaza headed Los Che in front in the 28th minute. However, Celta Vigo were level at the start of the second half when Iago Aspas converted from close range.

Valencia, though, were not to be denied as, with just nine minutes left, Tucu Hernandez clipped Nacho Gil from behind to concede a penalty.

Vigo keeper Ruben Blanco guessed the right way and got a hand on Parejo's spot kick, but the ball bounced back into the net.

Valencia consolidated second place in the table, three points ahead of Real Madrid, while keeping Barcelona firmly in their sights as the leaders head to Villarreal on Sunday.

In Saturday's lunchtime kick-off, Joan Jordan's missed penalty cost Eibar the chance to move above Getafe as the teams played out a goalless draw at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

The big chance to decide the match arrived in the 54th minute, when the referee pointed to the spot after Sergi Enrich was brought down by Djene Dakonam, but 23-year-old midfielder Jordan struck his spot-kick over the bar.

Elsewhere, Deportivo La Coruna beat Leganes 1-0 to record a first win in five La Liga games.

The hosts broke the deadlock after 24 minutes when Emre Colak's fierce 20-yard strike was parried out by Leganes goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar and Adrian was alert to head the loose ball in from 10 yards.

On-loan Aston Villa midfielder Carles Gil came close to another goal for Deportivo in the 67th minute when his shot came back off the crossbar.

The victory leaves Deportivo in 16th place, three points clear of the relegation zone.
