Celta Vigo's Nestor Cannobio has been ruled out for two months.Celta Vigo's Nestor Cannobio has been ruled out for two months after tests revealed that he had damaged ligaments in his left ankle.
The Uruguayan midfielder picked up the knock in the home defeat against Racing Santander at the weekend and initial reports suggested that he had only bruised his foot.
But an ultrasound scan has shown that Cannobio has torn a ligament in his ankle and will require at least eight weeks recuperation.
"After the ultrasound it was discovered that there is a small tear in the peroneum ligament which is at the back of the ankle," Celta club doctor, Juan Jose Crespo explained.
"The player will be put in a plaster cast for two weeks. Then he will undergo six weeks of treatment in order for him to return to the levels he was at before the injury occurred.
"Logically, we will try to ensure he returns in the quickest possible time."
Cannobio spent last season on loan at Balaidos from Valencia and made the move permanent after Celta had won promotion to the top flight after a year in the second division.
