Real Sociedad recovered from the disappointment of defeat to Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao last weekend to see off Alaves in a 3-0 victory at Estadio Anoeta on Saturday evening.

Xabi Prieto headed his first goal of the season midway through the first half while Willian Jose added a smart second in the 57th minute as the hosts took control against another local rival.

Carlos Vela's 87th-minute effort rounded off the scoring to secure a third straight home win in La Liga for Eusebio Sacristan's side, who moved up to seventh in the table with the result.

Granada extended their winless start to their La Liga campaign to nine games following a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Sporting Gijon.

Basement-club Granada were the better of the two sides throughout the match, but failed to break the deadlock as they collected only their third point of the season at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

The hosts came closest to scoring early in the second half when Ruben Vezo connected with Andreas Pereira's free kick which brought a terrific save from Sporting goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar to deny him.
