The Serbo-Montenegrin international believes that he and Kahveci have come in for unfair criticism after failing to match their goalscoring exploits of last term during the early part of this season.
The pair managed an impressive 43 goals between them last time around as Real finished runners-up in La Liga, but - despite already having nine between them this campaign - some quarters of the press have blamed the duo for Sociedad's indifferent league form so far.
Kovacevic feels, however, that he is being unfairly targeted, and defended his record this season.
"In 14 games I have scored six goals and I don't believe that is a bad figure," said the former Sheffield Wednesday hit-man.
"This is your (the journalists') opinion. I believe that Nihat and I are playing to the same level as last year, the only thing is we are not always managing to score, but we have had chances and the goals will come.
"The manager is happy with us and that is the important thing."
Kovacevic is confident that Real will soon begin to pick up points to improve their league predicament, and believes the team just need a change of fortune in front of goal.
"In the last three games we have recovered our style of play," he continued.
"The team is playing well and are in good shape physically. We are only lacking goals, but I am optimistic."
