Sociedad currently find themselves third from bottom in La Primera, and have not won in their last eight league outings.
Although the Basque outfit have qualified for the second phase of the UEFA Champions League in their first-ever season in the competition, the Turkish international forward admits he is dismayed by the side's domestic predicament.
"Last season we all lived a marvellous experience, and this year everything has changed," stated the former Besiktas star.
"For us it is very hard and I feel as if I am in a bad dream, living a nightmare.
"I don't have any explanation. Last year we had a great season with the same coaches and the same players.
"I can only say that we are not scoring many goals and are conceding a lot. For this reason we are not winning.
"When you start scoring more than you let in you win, but we have not achieved that yet."
One of the principle reasons for Sociedad's travails this term has been the lack of goals from Nihat and his strike partner Darko Kovacevic.
The pair managed 43 league goals between them last campaign, but have notched a joint total of just seven this time around.
However, Nihat has defended their record, and insisted it is the responsibility of the entire team to weigh in with goals.
"Between the two of us we scored 43 goals last year, thus it is normal for people to expect us to score goals.
"But it shouldn't just depend on the forwards. All the players should try to score goals, even the defenders.
"Football is a collective sport, but hopefully we can score this weekend (against Valladolid)."
