Valery Karpin regrets staying on for another season with Real Sociedad.Valery Karpin regrets staying on for another season with Real Sociedad and wishes he had retired last summer.
The Estonian-born midfielder is finding the going tough at Estadio Anoeta as the team has won only nine league games this term and are languishing in the bottom half of the table.
"If I had known this year was going to be like this I would have not signed up for another season," he said.
"The truth is this feels like the longest season of my career.
"In another month or so we should have won enough points to ensure we are safe. That is a positive, but should not be considered a success."
Real Sociedad face Numancia at home on Sunday, with the visitors to the Anoeta rooted to the foot of the table.
However, Karpin warns his team have to be careful, because Numancia are unbeaten in their last four games.
"The whole squad knows that we cannot afford any mistakes in this game, especially as we are at home," he continued.
"Because of this we are aware that people will think things will be easy.
"But they will not and we will have to earn the three points because Numancia are much better than when we played them in the first half of the season."
