Nihat Kahveci's proposed move from Real Sociedad to CSKA Moscow is in doubt.Nihat Kahveci's proposed move from Real Sociedad to CSKA Moscow has been plunged into doubt.
The Turkey international is widely expected to join the Uefa Cup winners in a é¼10 million deal over the summer.
Kahveci will sign a four-year contract with CSKA, with rumours suggesting he will spend one year in the Russian capital before joining Chelsea.
But fears are starting to grow that the striker's move will not be completed as the situation has not progressed an inch in the past 10 days.
The player has undergone two separate medicals, having been sidelined since February due to a cruciate ligament injury.
Since the examinations, though, there has been no movement on the deal and that has sparked talk the transfer will collapse.
Sociedad will shortly hold presidential elections and candidate Miguel Santos has suggested that the current board 'may be keeping some secrets'.
Former Russia international and Sociedad midfielder Valery Karpin is Santos' right-hand man and he pledged to try to hold onto Kahveci.
The 25-year-old has 12 months remaining on his deal with the Basque club and Karpin revealed that, if Santos is elected, discussions will be held with the attacker.
Karpin said: "If he is still a Real Sociedad player on July 1 we will try to renew his contract.
"There are many solutions to keep Nihat here."
