Nihat confirms Real exit

Turkish striker Nihat Kahveci has confirmed he will be leaving Real Sociedad in January.

Turkish striker Nihat Kahveci has confirmed he will be leaving Real Sociedad in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old refused to confirm his destination, but insisted a deal had all but been done with one of his suitors.

Although Dinamo Moscow and Valencia have been credited with an interest in the front man, it appears almost certain that Spartak Moscow are the club who will win the race for his signature having agreed a fee of ‚é¼11.5 million (£8 million) with Sociedad.

Nihat's contract with the Basque outfit is due to expire in the summer hence they were keen to offload him in January rather than risk losing him for nothing.

The player himself insists part of his motivation to move now rather than wait for a Bosman free transfer is to help his club who are currently crippled by massive debts.

"After thinking very hard I have decided that the best thing is for me to leave Real, firstly for me and then for the club," he stated.

"There were many who didn't believe me, who thought I was lying and thought I wanted to stay until June to be able to leave on a free.

"But I have always said that if the club has an offer, I was ready to talk if the offer was good for both parties.

"Although everything is not 100 percent guaranteed, I can say there is every possibility I will go there (Spartak Moscow)."

Nihat is a hugely popular figure amongst Sociedad fans having managed 55 goals in 117 league matcjes for the club.

The Basque outfit are considering Danish striker Morten Skoubo as a replacement for the Turk, with director of football Jose Maria Bakero having been recommended him by close friend, and Brondby manager, Michael Laudrup.
