Italy coach Cesare Prendelli has offered former star Francesco Totti the chance to say a proper farewell by playing in a friendly for the Azzurri.
The 34-year-old Roma captain and sporting icon quit international football following his country's triumphant World Cup win in 2006, but was mooted to be offering himself for this year's disastrous defence of the trophy in South Africa.
Injuries however ruled out the forward's participation in the tournament, but Prandelli was hopeful he could entice Totti into linking up with former Roma team-mate Antonio Cassano for one final bow for the four-time World champions.
However he conceded that he would not consider selecting Totti for a place in the squad for competitive fixtures.
"It would be a good signal for children. It would show them that friendship and enthusiasm exist in football," Prandelli told Rai TV on Friday ahead of Italy's Euro qualifier in Northern Ireland.
"I don't know if we could do it in November. I'm not thinking about it at the moment."
