Inter's summer signing suffers tear

Inter Milan goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano could be ruled out for the season following a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. It will come as a bitter blow for the 25-year-old keeper, who joined the San Siro giants during the summer from Serie A rivals Bologna and was hoping to compete against Brazilian number one Julio Cesar. The player suffered the injury while training at the club's summer camp in Pinzolo on Saturday afternoon. He underwent diagnostic procedures at the orthopaedic clinic, which was supervised by Inter's chief of medical staff professor Franco Combi and his worst fears were realised after receiving the test results. Viviano will now require surgery, which is planned for the next few days.
