Juventus fail in Elia bid

Image: Elia: The winger has three years left on his contract to mean Hamburg are not under pressure

Frank Arnesen has admitted Hamburg have rejected an offer from Juventus for Eljero Elia.

Reports suggest initial offer for Dutch winger was worth £6m

Hamburg general manager Frank Arnesen has admitted the club have turned down an offer from Serie A giants Juventus for Eljero Elia. The Dutch winger has also been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool in the past, but Juventus have made the offer. Reports suggest the bid is worth £6million, but former FC Twente star Elia has three more years left on his contract to mean Hamburg are under no pressure to sell. Arnesen told the club's official website: "We do not want to lose Eljero Elia and we also have no need to sell him. He is a very important player of our team. "We have rejected the official bid received from Juventus." Meanwhile, Hamburg boss Michael Oenning has refused to comment on speculation which suggests David Jarolim is surplus to requirements. Ivory Coast international Guy Demel was last week told he did not have a future at the club, much to his frustration.
