FIORENTINA supporters are ready for "the match of the year" against eternal rivals Juventus, and president Vittorio Cecchi Gori confirmed his trust in the side.
"Juventus is a great club," said Cecchi Gori. "But we are playing good football at this moment, I think we could win in Turin."
The president also revealed he wants to retain Fatih Terim (pictured) as Viola coach for next season. "Terim is a great coach, I will meet him before the end of January to talk about his new deal," confirmed Cecchi Gori.
Meanwhile, Viola goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has a fever and Terim has called up the third-choice Giamatteo Mareggini. Terim hopes that Toldo will be in the starting 11 at Delle Alpi Stadium on Saturday night.
If Toldo is ruled out, he will be replaced by second choice keeper Pino Taglialatela.
Midfielder Fabio Rossitto was injured while training on Thursday afternoon and he is set to miss this match. The 29-year-old player will be replaced by Christian Amoroso in the Fiorentina midfield.
4,000 Viola supporters are expected to travel to Turin, but police chief Nicola Cavaliere revealed he is not worried.
"The police are ready," he stated. "I am sure there will not be problems."
Usually when Bianconeri and Viola meet, their supporters cause a lot of problems tfor the police. The two clubs are the eternal rivals of Italian soccer. Nowadays in Florence, it is possible to see a lot of shirts with the writing: "Thanks to God I am not a Juventus supporter."
The club is also working in the transfer market; with Serie B side Salernitana targeting defender Aldo Firicano. The player is set to sign for Salernitana only if Terim signs Internazionale left back Michele Serena, his first target for the winter transfer market.
