Internazionale striker Christian Vieri (pictured) returns to the squad after missing the recent qualifiers through injury, which means there is no place for Fiorentina hit-man Enrico Chiesa, who has grabbed 22 goals this season.
The call-up marks a remarkable turnaround for Zauli after he was suspended for alleged match-fixing this season, but was later cleared on appeal.
He was one of six players, four from Atalanta and two from Serie B side Pistoiese, who were suspended in March for allegedly conspiring to fix the result of an Italian Cup match in August.
He was out of action for nearly two months until all the players were cleared by an Italian Football Federation appeals court.
The 23 year-old is one of the products of Atalanta's highly-rated youth team who have played a major role in the side's success this season as they battle for a place in Europe.
Zauli is the only new name in Giovanni Trapattoni's 22-man strong squad for the Group Eight qualifier in Tbilisi on June 2.
Perugia duo Marco Materazzi and Fabio Liverani both keep their places in the party after making impressive international debuts in last month's 1-0 friendly win over South Africa.
Gianluigi Buffon (Parma), Francesco Toldo (Fiorentina) Valerio Bertotto (Udinese), Fabio Cannavaro (Parma), Paolo Maldini (AC Milan), Marco Materazzi (Perugia), Alessandro Nesta and Giuseppe Pancaro (both Lazio) Francesco Coco (AC Milan), Angelo Di Livio (Fiorentina), Stefano Fiore (Udinese), Fabio Liverani (Perugia), Alessio Tacchinardi and Gianluca Zambrotta (both Juventus), Damiano Tommasi (AS Roma), Luciano Zauri and Damiano Zenoni (both Atalanta), Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi (both Juventus), Vincenzo Montella and Francesco Totti (both AS Roma), Christian Vieri (Inter)
