Rui Costa gave Milan an early lead in their clash with CSKA Sofia and their lead was doubled five minutes into the second half when Andrei Shevchenko scored.
Brave Wisla Krakaw held out for an hour in their clash with star-studded Inter Milan at the san Siro before Mohammed Kallon broke their hearts.
Kallon (pictured) then netted a second to give Inter some breathing space ahead of the second leg.
Two Marco Di Vaio strikes and another from Emiliano Bonazzoli saw Parma storm into a three goal lead in their clash against Utrecht.
Arco Jochemsen pulled a goal back for the home side with 14 minutes remaining to give them some hope in the return leg.
Roberto Massaro opened the scoring for Fiorentina in their clash with Tirol Innsbruck in Florence.
Nuno Gomes then made sure of the win with the second and secure a much needed win for the cash-strapped Italians.
