Inter ran out 2-0 winners against struggling Torino and ruined the birthday celebrations of coach Renzo Uliveri, whose side remain firmly rooted the bottom of Serie A.
Former Valencia boss Hector Cuper was delighted with his side's performance that keeps the San Siro side hot-on-the-heels of their biggest rivals.
"I'm happy because I think that especially in the second half, we played good football and I think we deserved the win," said Cuper.
"In the first half they caused us problems because we channelled all our attacking play down the centre.
"In the second half we got better when Recoba played out on the left hand side as I had asked him to do for the whole match.
"He's fundamental to our play and I'm happy because if our attacking players make the right movement to find space we are a threat.
"We are all in this together, the main priority is the team.
"Christian Vieri and Gabriel Batistuta know that sometimes they will have to make sacrifices for the side but they see the bigger picture."
Turkish midfielder Emre Belozoglu commented: "It's an important win. We undoubtedly played better in the second half because Torino closed us down well in the first period.
"They're a good team and probably don't deserve to be down their struggling.
"For us, the most important thing is not to lose points."
