Biancoceleste president Ugo Longo, exasperated by the speculation regarding Stam, has told the Italian press that the player will definitely not be leaving the club.
''Stam will stay with us,'' Longo confirmed. ''We have told this many times and I confirm it today too.''
The player's Italian agent Paquale Bruno has confessed that several clubs are interested in his client, but in all likelihood Stam will see out the remainder of his contract.
''Either he will leave immediately or he will wait until until his contract with Lazio expires in 2005,'' Bruno confirmed. ''Then, he will then go back to Holland.
''He's eyed by everyone, Juve, Milan, Inter.
''But Jaap's thoughts are clear and considering I don't think Lazio have any intention of letting him leave, he should be with the club until until 2005.''
The Oranje star has previously admitted to the Dutch media that he is intrigued by the offer on the table from the Nerazzurri.
"Personally, I prefer Inter's offer because it coincides with the natural expiry of my contract," Stam told De Telegraaf.
"Other clubs have been chasing me for several years, but the timing wasn't right."
Elsewhere, the ongoing saga of Dejan Stankovic's move to Internazionale seems to be no nearer conclusion, with Longo admitting that the deal has hit a stalemate.
''Regarding Stankovic, there are negotiations ongoing, but for the moment everyone is stopped in their respective positions.''
However, with both parties keen for the deal to be completed before the end of the transfer window, Stankovic should be unveiled as an Internazionale player before the end of next week.
