Javier Zanetti has foregone a holiday to help Inter reach the UEFA Champions League.Internazionale's Argentina international Javier Zanetti has foregone a summer holiday in order to help his side reach the UEFA Champions League.
The Inter captain spent most of the close-season training and playing in the Copa America, where Argentina reached the final against Brazil.
Zanetti could have missed the start of the Giuseppe Meazza outfit's season, but has returned to help them progress from the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
The Serie A giants take on Swiss outfit Basel over two legs with the winners claiming a place in this season's prestigious European club competition.
"There was no time to have a holiday. On Wednesday we will have the first important match against Basel," explained Zanetti.
"The preliminary counts a lot for us, for the supporters and for the club. This is the reason why I've made myself available to Mancini immediately. I want to be useful to the team.
"We'll respect our opponents. It will be a hard match, especially as they have better fitness than us, and they played more than us.
"We have nothing to fear. We just have to focus on our strengths."
