Marco Materazzi's knee injury is not as bad as was initially feared and is already in light training, but Dutch winger Andy van der Meyde is unlikely to play again this season after being diagnosed with a tear to a muscle in his left leg.
Van der Meyde limped out of Sunday's win over Cagliari and tests conducted on Monday confirmed the news that the Dutch international will struggle to play any further part for Inter this season.
Materazzi, meanwhile, is expected to be fit in around a week as fears over ligament damage proved to be unfounded.
The strapping defender limped out of the 2-0 win over the Sardinian club and officials initially feared he had suffered ligament damage to his left knee.
Tests, though, showed no serious damage and coach Roberto Mancini could be able to call on the defender before the end of the week.
