Internazionale have joined a host of clubs circling contract rebel Antonio Cassano.
Internazionale have joined a host of clubs circling around contract rebel Antonio Cassano.
The 23-year-old had been negotiating a new deal with Roma, but with the two parties unable to hammer out terms he now looks to be frozen out in the capital.
The Giallorossi would ideally like to receive a fee for Cassano and would therefore favour a January sale, although it seems more likely that potential suitors will bide their time until his present contract expires in the summer.
However, should Roma carry out their threat to consign Cassano to a watching brief until his deal ends, then the Italian Players' Association may intervene and demand that his contract is rescinded.
Juventus had been thought to be leading the race for the Azzurri striker and, although Luciano Moggi recently ruled out a New Year move, the Stadio Delle Alpi still looks a likely destination for Cassano.
That has not deterred the Nerazzurri from trying to lure the former Bari hit-man to Giuseppe Meazza, however, with club president Giacinto Facchetti telling Guerin Sportivo: "We are interested in his signature, yet we will only talk about it next June.
"Cassano is an important player even if I can rule out the possibility of making any signings in January.
"However, at the end of the campaign, we will evaluate the situation. If he is still available for nothing then we'll seek to find out what his economical demands are."
