Massimo Moratti has confirmed Internazionale's interest in Fiorentina striker Luca Toni.
Toni led the line for Italy at the World Cup and, with Fiorentina implicated in the match-fixing scandal, could be set for a high-profile transfer.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are both chasing the 29-year-old but Moratti is hoping to steal in and capture his signature.
The Inter supremo has already opened discussions with Viola but urged fans to remain patient.
"A negotiation? Yes, but nothing has been decided", Moratti told Sky Italia.
"Could he arrive? Let's see, let's see."
Moratti also revealed that Uruguayan striker Alvaro Recoba had put pen-to-paper on a new Nerazzurri contract following speculation that he could be on his way out of the San Siro.
"Recoba has renewed his contract with us," he commented.
Fabio Grosso, recently signed from Palermo, and Marco Materazzi were Inter's premier representatives at the World Cup and Moratti lavished praise on the defensive duo for their displays in Germany.
"I'm really pleased for them because they are two good guys with great character," he hailed.
"We are happy Inter could have been useful to the National team."
