Internazionale are set to be without Esteban Cambiasso and Julio Cruz for a month after the pair picked up muscle strains over the weekend.
Cambiasso injured his calf during the Serie A opener against Fiorentina on Saturday, while Cruz (pictured) picked up a groin strain during training on Sunday.
Both players will undergo further scans to reveal the extent of the problems but are set to be sidelined for up to four weeks with the injuries.
The pair have been left out of Roberto Mancini's squad for the UEFA Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday, along with Alvaro Recoba.
Recoba is still on his way back from injury and will not be risked for the trip to Lisbon.
Meanwhile, Sporting coach Paulo Bento will be without four players for the match.
Custodio, Carlos Mendes, Carlos Paredes and Pontus Farnerud are all missing but Bento remains upbeat.
"This is a serious blow for us but we will still be ready for the battle in Europe with or without injuries," he said.
