Serie A side Messina have sacked Bruno Giordano and named Alberto Cavasin as his successor.Sunday's home defeat to bottom of the table Ascoli proved to be the final straw for Messina's board, who acted quickly in a bid to quell a poor run of form which has seen them plummet down the table.
Messina started the season well but are now languishing in 18th position having picked up just two points from their last 10 league games.
It had looked as though Giordano had won himself a stay of execution when Messina president Pietro Franza claimed at the weekend that the club's players had convinced him to keep faith in their under-fire coach.
However, the club's supporters were quick to vent their frustrations in the direction of Giordano and now he has paid the price with his job.
Cavasin (pictured), who has previous top flight experience with Lecce, Brescia and Treviso, will start his new post with immediate effect.
Despite Giordano's dismissal, Messina have still had time to conclude a number of transfers.
Vincent Candela and Roberto D'Aversa have both joined the club from Siena, whilst Livorno's Ibrahim Bakayoko has also signed.
With Bakayoko leaving, Livorno have bolstered their attacking ranks with the signing of Brazilian winger Cesar. The former Lazio man signs on loan from Internazionale after cutting short a loan spell back in his homeland with Corinthians.
