The 22-year-old Empoli star scored against the England Under-21s in their 1-1 draw, before making his debut against the full national side earning Italy`s match-winning penalty.
English Premiership side Chelsea and Parma have also shown a keen eye on the young striker, however Roma are believed to be winning the race for the starlet.
"Roma currently have the advantage in the race to sign him," said Empoli director Pino Vitale. "Even if Juventus are interested in the forward."
Despite making history in becoming the first player to make the full national squad without having played a match in Serie A, the forward is not expecting to make the squad for the World Cup.
"I'm not thinking about the World Cup, I would be crazy to do so," said Maccarone. "I want to play in the Under-21 European Championship with Italy, that's my target."
