Roma keeper Cristiano Lupatelli has moved to dispel fears over his fitness, saying he will be ready for a first team return in the near future.
The keeper suffered a knee ligaments injury in April and recent media reports have suggested he could be sidelined until the summer.
This has prompted suggestions that the club are stalling on offering the keeper a new deal due to fears over his fitness.
Lupatelli, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season, has said things are progressing well on all fronts.
"The only reason why we are here is because it hasn't been good reading news about my knee," said Lupatelli.
"I want to clear things up to avoid future inaccuracies.
"Sincerely I'm not here because at the end of season my contract expires, I'm not even thinking about it.
"My first aim is to end the recovery programme and return to the team.
"I like staying in Rome, it's the third year and I feel good. From my side there aren't problems and the contract is a matter between my agent and the club.
"At moment I'm just thinking about recovering as soon as possible."
