Roma remain hopeful

Reports in Italy suggest Roma are close to agreeing a deal for Antonio Cassano.

Reports in Italy suggest Roma have met up with Antonio Cassano's agent in a bid to thrash out a new contract for the striker.

Cassano's current deal expires in June, with the two parties at loggerheads with regards to the inking of a new deal.

The player has received criticism from the club's supporters because thus far he has refused to commit himself to the capital outfit.

Roma have threatened to sideline the player unless he concurs on fresh terms - with a mega money deal reportedly on offer.

Cassano was believed to be in the meeting, with sources close to the club reporting that the diminutive forward has verbally agreed to stay.

An agreement has reportedly been reached whereby Cassano will commit himself to a deal that binds him to the Giallorossi until 2007.

Although Roma have made no official comment as yet, it is expected that an announcement will be made in the next few days.
