Lippi warning for Cassano

Antonio Cassano will not be called up for Italy until he is playing for Roma again.

Marcello Lippi has reiterated his warning to Antonio Cassano that he will not be called up for Italy until he is playing for Roma again.

Cassano is currently an outcast at Roma after rejecting an extension to his contract, which is due to expire at the end of the season.

The situation has seen the attacker lose his place in the Azzurri squad and Lippi confirmed there will be no recall until he is back in the Roma side.

"As the Federation president Franco Carrao rightly said, it is possible to only call up to the national team those who are playing effectively," said Lippi.

"Those who don't work can't be called up.

"Cassano must start playing again, then we will talk about it."

Meanwhile, Lippi voiced his hope that Italy can be the biggest challengers to holders Brazil at next summer's World Cup finals.

He added: "I like dreaming. We could be the team that are anti-Brazil.

"All over the world today, Brazil are considered the strongest side. After them are Argentina and other European sides, us included.

"Everyone hopes to be the anti-Brazil and, due to the fact I enjoy dreaming, we could be."
