Italy coach Marcello Lippi has hinted that he will take Daniele De Rossi to task.
Italy coach Marcello Lippi has hinted that he will take Daniele De Rossi to task over his dismissal against United States on Saturday, but will not air dirty linen in public.
De Rossi was shown a straight red card for throwing an elbow at Brian McBride during the 1-1 draw in Kaiserslautern.
The Roma midfielder is one of the most gifted players in Serie A, but his ability is matched by his temperament flaws and Lippi feels it is time the youngster started to toe the line.
"I haven't talked with De Rossi yet," said the Azzurri chief. "He needs to be left to stew on things a little more.
"He needs to think over things for a bit - about last night but not only about last night.
"I will have a talk with him but I'm not going to discuss my views here with you now.
"There is no doubt that he is a lad who is considered to be a fantastic kid and an excellent player but he has to change his ways or he is going to carry this (reputation) with him for a long time."
De Rossi has issued an apology to McBride and his team-mates, but Fifa are still deliberating over his punishment - with some reports suggesting he could be banned for the rest of the tournament.
