Roma defender to undergo operation on damaged knee ligaments

Roma have confirmed that Nicolas Burdisso is to undergo an operation on the knee ligaments he damaged while away on international duty. The defender picked up the injury while turning out for Argentina in their 2014 World Cup qualifier against Colombia. The centre-half will be operated on by doctors from Roma and the Argentine national side and is expected to be sidelined for several months. "Nicolas Burdisso will rest tomorrow and be operated on on Sunday to treat ligament and skeletal damage to his left knee," read a statement released by Roma on their official website. Roma will be disappointed to lose the services of a key figure at a crucial stage of the season, with the capital giants currently sat seventh in the Serie A standings.
