STANKOVIC THREATENS TO LEAVE LAZIO

LAZIO midfielder Dejan Stankovic has warned the club that he will leave if he does not get a better run in the first team, saying that he is fed up with sitting on the sidelines.

The 22-year-old Yugoslavian international is disappointed that the club's non-EU players are being rotated in the first team by manager Sven Goran Eriksson, whilst he is being kept on the subs' bench.

Stankovic played in the 1-0 defeat to Anderlecht in the Champions League on Wednesday, but he was sent off for stamping on Belgian international Bart Goor towards the end of the match, and a European ban will not help his claim for a longer run in the first team at Lazio.

But the highly-rated youngster feels that his lack of games is having a detrimental affect on his performances, and warned that he may have to look elsewhere to kick-start his career.

"I am trying hard to be at my best but nothing is going right for me," said the midfielder. "The defeat in Brussels was painful and I reacted impulsively.

"I know it's hard to get a regular first team place among a whole bunch of foreigners, but I am left out of the squad for no reason sometimes."

"The waiting is killing me," he added. "The most important thing for me is a regular first-team place and there are offers from other clubs."
