Mancini, who played alongside Stankovic and was former Lazio boss Sven Goran Eriksson's assistant at the Stadio Olimpico, is a big admirer of the Yugoslavian ace and has targeted him as a major signing for the Viola.
"Mancini has contacted my club," said Stankovic. "There is a possibility that negotiations will continue."
The 22-year-old star has found himself on the fringes this term for Lazio and he admitted that he is not happy at not playing regular first team football but declared he was in no rush to leave Rome.
"I appreciate my former skipper making this move," said Stankovic.
"Fiorentina have only been a smaller club than Lazio in recent years. For me the most important thing is always to be in the first XI. There are a couple of real football stars at Fiorentina."
"There isn't a day that goes by when there isn't some talk about my transfer, but I still feel good at the Stadio Olimpico," added Stankovic.
The right-sided midfielder also dismissed reports in the Italian press that he was poised to join French club Paris Saint-Germain.
"I haven't signed," said Stankovic. "Their news simply isn't correct. After all, I don't want to leave Italy, which is the strongest league in the world. And there is still a chance that I could stay in Rome, especially if the rule limiting non-EU players were abandoned."
Lazio may be interested in a deal if Portugal midfielder Rui Costa is available and although Fiorentina are keen to keep their star midfielder at the Artemio Franchi stadium they could be tempted to sell a player who has been at odds with the club for the best part of the season.
Viola president Vittorio Cecchi Gori, however, is thought to be looking Lazio's Czech star Pavel Nedved in any swap deal for Rui Costa, but Lazio will face a fight to sign Rui Costa with Milan keen to sign the talented playmaker.
