Juve crush Torino

JUVENTUS jumped to the top of Serie A with an emphatic 4-0 drubbing of city rivals Torino.

With local pride at stake, Torino were determined to stun their more illustrious foes but Juventus were rampant.

Alessandro Del Piero fired Juve ahead after just six minutes and Marco Di Vaio added a second after the half-hour mark.

Pavel Nedved further increased his side's advantage after the interval before Marco Ferrante had a chance to reduce the arrears.

But Ferrante's penalty was saved by Gianluigi Buffon and Edgar Davids then rubbed salt into Torino's wounds with a fourth goal a minute from time.

Milan stayed in third as Parma paid a costly penalty at Giuseppe Meazza.

The rossoneri edged to a 2-1 success over Parma courtesy of two spot kicks from Andrea Pirlo.

He fired the hosts ahead just after half-time but Parma equalised through Emanuele Filippini on 64 minutes before Pirlo tucked away a second penalty on 70 minutes.

Lazio moved onto the heels of the leaders with a convincing 3-1 triumph at struggling Como.

Diego Simeone put the visitors in front after 16 minutes but Nicola Corrent levelled matters ten minutes before the break.

A second half brace from Claudio Lopez earned Lazio the points and condemned Como to the bottom of the table.

Modena continued their fine run in the top flight with a 1-0 home win over Piacenza which was sealed by Omar Milanetto's 32nd minute penalty.

Chievo Verona were unable to close the gap at the top of the table as they lost 2-1 at Udinese.

Martin Jorgensen and Carsten Jancker put the hosts in the driving seat at half-time before former Udinese striker Oliver Bierhoff reduced the arrears.

Chievo pressed for an equaliser but were unable to break down Udinese, who had Sulley Ali Muntari sent off for two yellow cards in injury-time.

Empoli enjoyed a thrilling 4-2 success at home to Reggina in a match which contained goals from start to finish.

Antonio Di Natale put Empoli ahead after three minutes but Reggina immediately drew level through Shunsuke Nakamura from the penalty spot.

Di Natale and Tomasso Rocchi from the spot put Empoli in command before Jorge Vargas set up a tense closing ten minutes with a second for Reggina.

But Di Natale popped up in injury-time to complete his hat-trick and dispel any fears that Empoli would throw away the points.

Atalanta hauled themselves off the foot of the table with a 2-0 home triumph over Brescia courtesy of second half strikes from Ousmane Dabo and Gianni Comandini.
