As the Serbia-Montenegro international continues to stall over a new deal, Lazio officials are getting increasingly frustrated over the situation.
Stadio Olimpico chiefs have threatened to sell Stankovic in January if he has not penned an extension to his current deal, which expires in June, by the time the transfer window reopens.
Mancini says that Stankovic needs to be handled in a softly, softly manner, in order to be able to make up his mind.
"As for Dejan's contract, the least said, the better. The guy needs tranquillity, affection and time," said Mancini.
"I don't think things could be closed in a short time and so we need to have patience and be quiet."
