Mauri set for surgery

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri is hopeful of making a swift return to action.

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri is hopeful of making a swift return to action despite suffering a broken nose on Saturday.

Mauri was forced off an hour into Saturday's 1-1 draw with Udinese after suffering a facial injury in an accidental clash with Jorge Vargas.

The midfielder is due to go under the surgeon's knife at the start of the week, but is expecting to make a swift return.

Coach Delio Rossi has not ruled out the possibility of Mauri playing in a face mask against Fiorentina next weekend.

Mauri only joined Lazio in January, moving to the Eternal City on loan from Udinese.
