Lazio failed to make significant headway in their bid for a top-six finish after the Romans could muster only a 1-1 draw with Udinese at Stadio Olimpico.
Tomasso Rocchi gave the hosts the lead in the 20th minute but Vincenzo Iaquinta levelled from the penalty spot six minutes later and, despite second half pressure, the home side could not find the elusive winner.
Earlier in the evening Chievo claimed a 2-1 win at Treviso, who now appear destined for an immediate relegation from Serie A.
Simone Tiribocchi gave the visitors a 38th minute lead and notched again two minutes after the interval.
To their credit the hosts refused to fold and pulled a goal back through Marco Borriello in the 77th minute.
The win sees Chievo consolidate their hold on seventh position.
