Massimo Oddo handed Lazio a win over Sampdoria, while Messina & Udinese drew.
A late brace from Massimo Oddo handed Lazio a 2-0 win over Sampdoria.
After a goalless first half Oddo struck on 70 minutes and doubled his and his side's tally with an 89th minute penalty.
Fourth-from-bottom Udinese travelled to third-from-bottom Messina in a battle for Serie A survival which finished 1-1.
The visitors will be the happier of the two sides particularly as they fell behind to Arturo Di Napoli on the half hour.
But Messina's lead lasted just seven minutes before Christian Obodo levelled the scores.
Cagliari, who are also looking over their shoulders, lost 2-0 at home to fellow strugglers Reggina.
Goals from Alessandro Lucarelli (7) and Giacomo Tedesco (20) did the damage for the hosts and the visitors are now six points clear of the bottom three.
Livorno slipped up with a 2-1 defeat at Empoli. Francesco Tavano struck first on 39 minutes and Antonio Busce doubled Empoli's lead six minutes after half time.
Cristiano Lucarelli converted an 87th minute penalty to halve the arrears but Livorno could not force a dramatic equaliser.
Chievo left it very late to claim a 2-2 draw at Ascoli. Carvalho Amauri gave Chievo the lead on 24 minutes but a fightback from Ascoli threatened to overwhelm the visitors.
Massimo Paci levelled the scores on 45 minutes and added another just past the hour.
Ascoli appeared to have done enough to claim the three points only for Amauri to steal in and claim an equaliser two minutes into time added on at the end of the half.
Second-from-bottom Lecce recorded a surprise 2-1 win at mid-table Siena but the Serie A minnows are still resigned to an almost inevitable relegation.
Guillermo Giacomazzi (4) and Mirko Vucinic (71) stunned the hosts and things got even worse for Siena when Francesco Colonnese was dismissed for a second bookable offence a quarter of an hour from time.
Despite being a man light, however, Erjon Bogdani notched a consolation strike for the home side on 85 minutes.
Ayodele Makinwa was the 57th minute matchwinner as Palermo beat bottom-club Treviso 1-0.
